Muslim states:

“In 638 CE, the Muslim nation took Jerusalem. The Companion of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the second Muslim Caliph, Umar ibn Al-Khattab entered into it riding upon a donkey, thus fulfilling the prophesy of Zachariah 9:9.”

First of all, I challenge Muslims to give us evidences from any of their sources that he was riding “a donkey”. What Muslim tradition speaks of is either a horse or a white camel, but we could not find one reference that he rode in on a donkey.

Secondly, let’s analyse Zechariah 9:9 in its context and let’s see whether or not this prophecy had already been fulfilled by someone else.

9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.-
Zechariah 9:9 -10

Notice the bold underlined words. Zechariah talks about this person:

1.     For the daughter of Zion (Jerusalem/Israel), to rejoice greatly.

Question: Why would they rejoice when they were just defeated by the Companion of Muhammad and the second Muslim Caliph, Umar Ibn Al-Khattab?

2.     A King of Zion (Jerusalem/Israel).

To understand what he meant by King of Zion, let’s see another passage to clarify as to whom he is referring:

Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. – Ps 149:2

As we see, this King is the Maker of the children of Zion (Israel), that’s God Himself!

Question: Was Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, “a King/God”? Not just a king, but was he ever been a king IN Jerusalem (Israel)?

3.     This King has salvation.

Question: Did this Muslim Caliph have salvation? That would deitify him if Muslims would say yes.

From the Muslim tradition of Bukhari, 5.41, it is shown that even upon his death, Umar (this very Muslim Caliph) feared meeting God. “By Allah! If (at all) I had gold equal to the earth, I would have ransomed myself with it from the Punishment of Allah before I meet Him”.

It does not seem that Umar had salvation, but rather found himself in the same boat as all mankind, in that he was a sinner in need of a savior. So whatever Muslims try to provide will automatically fail on this one.

4.     Lowly (Meek)

Was Umar lowly? Just consider these verses from the Qur’an (Qur’an 9:5, 29, 111, 123; 5:33…) and decide for yourself.

5.     He rides upon a donkey.

I already challenged Muslims to provide us a source stating that it was a donkey that he was riding upon.

6.     He shall speak peace unto the heathen.

Speaking peace to the heather? A Muslim who were commanded to oppress non-Muslims (Qur’an 9:5, 29, 111, 123…)? I find this ridiculous if Muslims really believe that.

7.     His dominion shall be from sea even to sea.

Was this Muslim Caliph ever had this kind of dominion?

Now, let’s show Muslims that this prophecy was already fulfilled more than 600 years before this Muslim was even born. It’s a prophecy about the Lord Jesus Christ.

1.     Was/is King of Israel – Matthew 2:1-2; 27:11; Mark 15:2-26; Luke 23:3; John 18:33-34; Revelation 19:16

2.     Was/is Savior – John 4:42; 12:47; Luke 2:11; Acts 5:30-31…

3.     Was/is Peace unto the heathen – John 14:27; Acts 10:36; Romans 2:10, 5:1…

4.     Lowly (Meek) – Matthew 11:29

Now to the main argument:

5.     He rode in upon an ass:

5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. 6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, 7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. – Matthew 21:5-7

This prophecy was already fulfilled by Christ. Again, Muslims’ false claim crumbles. Receive Jesus in your lives, O Muslims, He died to save you. Please click here and be saved.
