It’s been spread all over by certain heretic groups, Jehovah’s Witnesses in particular, that Easter isn’t biblical; it’s a pagan holiday they say. They had enough time to do some research about that but failed to understand what “Easter” really means biblically. So, they concluded, it’s unbiblical! This is very rich coming from a group who has altered the Bible (unsuccessfully) for their own false and twisted belief and teachings [subject of another day].

Acts 12:4 (KJV) – And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after EASTER to bring him forth to the people

The Greek word translated, “Easter” from the King James Version of the Bible here is, “Πάσχα (Pascha)”; which is akin to the Hebrew, “פּסח (Pesach)” meaning, Passover! Newer translations actually translate it as Passover, not Easter. [It has nothing to do with the celebration of the pagan goddess named “Eostre”, as they try to make it to be]

  • Should Christians celebrate Easter or not?

When celebrating something, you first have to know what is the purpose of that particular celebration? I’ve never heard any Christian who celebrates Easter, saying they are celebrating a pagan goddess named Eostre. Easter or Passover, in Christianity, is the celebration of Jesus Christ – our Passover (Πάσχα, Pascha) Lamb.

1Peter 1:18-19 says, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 BUT WITH THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST, AS OF A LAMB WITHOUT BLEMISH and without spot”

1 Corinthians 5:7 says, “…For even CHRIST OUR PASSOVER (Πάσχα, Pascha) is SACRIFICED FOR US

God commanded the Jews to celebrate the Passover in the Old Testament (Exodus 12); so if Christ is our Passover as the Bible records, then I don’t see any reason why it’s wrong to celebrate the risen Lord, who was slain to be our sin sacrifice, rose from the dead and gave us the victory. That’s something worth celebrating for, if you ask me!

In fact, the Bible says, we must celebrate Him (Passover)! The very next verse (8) of 1 Corinthians 5 says, Therefore LET US KEEP THE FEAST (Passover (or Easter) – Πάσχα (Pascha)), not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

I urge those who propagate this false teaching to repent. We don’t celebrate Easter as a pagan holiday but as the celebration of our risen Lord – Our Passover Lamb, Jesus Christ! Whether or not Easter happened to be celebrated the same day as the pagans celebrate(d) their goddess, means squat, because the purpose of our celebration is not the same. Just because a Satanist celebrates his satanic ritual on Christmas day doesn’t mean we’re celebrating it with him, vice versa.
